Improve Corrective Eye Surgery with Co-Management
What is LASIK Eye Surgery?

Your Trusted Guide for Laser Eye Surgeries in Provo

LASIK (laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis) surgery is a popular procedure used to correct vision and reduce the need for glasses and contact lenses. This eye surgery reshapes the cornea to correct the most common forms of vision impairment, such as myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness), and astigmatism.

At the Eye Clinic & Aesthetics of Provo we provide pre and post-LASIK co-management services for our patients. Before the surgery, we assist you in planning and preparation, while after the surgery, we provide follow-up care to monitor and optimize your recovery.

What is LASIK Co-Management?

Deciding to get LASIK is a big decision. Dr. Smith and Dr. Lewis can evaluate your eyes and educate you about vision correction. LASIK is the most common refractive surgery, but there are many more options that might be better for your individual case. After your consultation, we will help you make an informed decision about which eye surgery is best for you and your lifestyle. For 30 years, we have worked with the top LASIK surgeons in the country and will work closely with them on your behalf.

We will also help you through post-operative care so you can enjoy this life-changing experience to the fullest. For most patients, recovery from LASIK is very quick. It is common for patients to see clearly enough to drive and return to work the next day. At Eye Clinic & Aesthetics of Provo, we will monitor and manage your recovery so you can experience amazing vision after your refractive surgery.

Discover These LASIK Benefits

  • Better vision immediately after surgery

  • Greater convenience for the activities you enjoy
  • Minimize the ongoing cost of updated glasses and contacts
  • Quick recovery (as little as 3 days)
  • Reduce the hassle of glasses or contact lenses

Does LASIK Eye Surgery Hurt?

Despite common misconceptions, LASIK surgery is not typically a painful procedure. The belief that it is painful may have originated from older experiences with corneal refractive surgery, but modern techniques have made LASIK virtually painless. Medication options such as anesthetics and sedatives are also used for added patient comfort.

While patients experience awareness and some sensations during the procedure, efforts are made to keep the eye lubricated and minimize any discomfort. The creation of the corneal flap may cause pressure, but numbing drops effectively prevent any pain. The laser treatment itself is generally pain-free, with oral sedatives available to alleviate anxiety related to the procedure.

Provo’s LASIK Surgery FAQs

LASIK can be used to treat the following conditions:

  • Myopia
  • Hyperopia
  • Astigmatism
  • Presbyopia

LASIK can not be used to treat diseases such as cataracts or glaucoma, and it can worsen conditions such as keratoconus. Consult with our eye care providers for an in-depth assessment of your needs to explore ideal solutions.

This can depend on several factors, including how much your healthcare or eye insurance contributes to coverage. We offer financing options to help make these treatments more affordable so that our patients have an easier path to improving their quality of life.

If you have worn glasses or contact lenses for a long time, you may have wondered if refractive surgery is a good choice for you.

Good LASIK candidates are 21 years and older, are in good health, and have maintained stable prescriptions for at least one year. They should have healthy eyes (e.g., no keratoconus or glaucoma) that need correction for clearer vision due to conditions such as myopia or astigmatism, as recommended by an optometrist.

Conditions such as blepharitis, large pupils, thin corneas, previous refractive surgery, and dry eyes may disqualify individuals from undergoing LASIK. However, some of these conditions can potentially be treated to allow for a successful LASIK procedure.

Schedule a consultation with one of our optometrists to learn more about refractive surgeries and your vision.
